Moving towards an inclusive future.
Emotion21 started from a humble quest by Cate Sayers, to find a dance class for her daughter, Alexandra, who has Down syndrome. In April 2009, Cate held the first dance class in Kew with Alle and six of her friends and they had an absolute blast! Word quickly spread and soon families were traveling from all over Melbourne and Regional Victoria to attend the weekly classes.
In December 2009, Cate formalised the dance program by forming a Committee of Management, incorporating as a non-profit association and naming the program emotion21.
Since then, to meet demand emotion21 has opened 10 Victorian studio sites and expanded the program to include; dance, fitness, nutrition, wellness and yoga classes.
In 2020 we introduced virtual classes to allow people with Down syndrome from all across Australia to take part in emotion21.
